Course & Exam Information

Exam board and course route

In Year 9 we begin the AQA GCSE Physics course. All students follow the Separate (Triple) Science route until the middle of Year 10, when some students are entered instead for Combined Science.

Topics studied in Year 9

End of topic tests

Each topic has an end of topic test. The format is approximately:

  • 20% multiple choice questions (based on all content covered so far)
  • 80% GCSE exam questions

These tests are designed to help you build strong exam technique from the start of the GCSE course.

Year 9 exam (late April)

There is an exam in late April which is used to place students into sets. The exam contains:

  • Physics Skills
  • Energy Transfers
  • Particle Model
  • Usually a small part of Electric Circuits

How to revise

The most effective approach is to combine strong knowledge with exam practice:

  • Use your class notes and CGP GCSE Physics textbook to review content
  • Complete GCSE-style practice questions to build technique
  • Be proactive and speak to your teacher if you need support
